KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), consisting of the amino acid sequence Lysine-Proline-Valine. Unlike full-length α-MSH, KPV does not bind appreciably to melanocortin receptors involved in pigmentation, which has made it a subject of interest for research into inflammation pathways independent of melanogenic effects. Preclinical studies have investigated KPV’s influence on NF-κB signalling, cytokine production, and epithelial barrier integrity, particularly in gastrointestinal and dermatological research models. It is frequently studied alongside other regenerative research peptides such as BPC-157 and GHK-Cu.
